Getting Married Wearing Black

Vera Wang, Fall 2012

Would you get married in a color other than white?  Traditionally in many cultures, white is not necessarily the color of choice.  In China, India and Vietnam brides usually wear red.  But in western cultures like in America, Canada and England, brides usually wear a white or ivory wedding gowns.  It has long been associated with purity or a sign of virginity.

It comes as a big surprise that one of the most famous bridal gown designers in the world, Vera Wang, recently created a collection of wedding dresses that included shades of charcoal, black and grey.  The traditional whites were also shown but several pieces were dark with a hint of romance and contrast of bone and nude tones.  It was certainly one of her most interesting collections that will have an influence in the bridal business for seasons to come.

What do you think? Would you wear a black wedding gown?
